Mission Statement
Mission:
To remove barriers to healthy living and to cultivate wellness in individuals and communities so that each patient, staff member, and care provider discovers their best self through access to health care, education, sharing of resources, lifestyle modification, and opening themselves to God's grace and abundant love.
NRS 1 Corinthians 3:6“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.”
Vision:
We envision every person throughout the world living in an environment that encourages the health of individuals and communities, where resources are shared, nothing is wasted, and where all God's creation is cared for and revered.
Wholeness
We value…
- Wholeness. All individuals are inherently whole. We discover our purpose through attention to physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health.
- Environment. God declared creation, in its entirety and wholeness, to be ‘very good.’ We value creation and the environments therein that we dwell. We all need safe and nurturing environments to grow into the people God created us to be.
- God. We recognize all that we are, all that we have, all that we hope to be comes directly from God. No true growth occurs without God.
- Resources—God has gifted the earth with abundant resources, which are meant to be shared; not hoarded or wasted. We believe God’s promise of abundant life-- that God has prepared and gifted us. As long as we take only what we need and share whenever we have an opportunity, there is plenty for all.
- Others. We do not exist in isolation, but are intimately connected with our families, neighbors, local, state, national, and international communities. As Christians we understand ourselves as the Body of Christ, intimately connected to one another and to God in Jesus Christ. As Christians we are called to invite others into this same fellowship. Regardless of others’ response to this invitation, they stand in a state of being invited by Christ, and so we value all of humankind, give no preferences, and bear no prejudices.
- Wonder. We are driven to discover by the inspiration of God's creation. We experience joy in the mysteries around us.
Why Auxanomen?
Auxanomen is the English transliteration from the Biblical Greek αύξάνομεν which means “we grow.” Auxanomen encompasses the values that provide a framework for what we do and who we are.
- We-God calls us to serve and be served by others; living out this call we are united as one. We are unity, not dichotomy.
- Grow-God has great plans for us. We seek to discover and grow into God's purpose for our lives.
- Scripture– We chose the name Auxanomen from a Biblical language as a constant reminder of who we are and whose we are.
In applying this self-understanding to our broad focus on healthcare (not seen narrowly as simply the rendering of a professional service, but broadly as wholeness-care), consider the following:
- Our current healthcare system is one of scarcity—not enough time, resources, money, or providers. We ration healthcare by default—by making the process so complicated, costly, and difficult to access, that many get lost in the system or simply give up.
- When we are patients, we often feel as though we are pawns in the system rather than partners in our own care. Healthcare is often rendered through orders and prescriptions rather than discussion and lifestyle choices. When we, as patients, are unable to understand or afford care, we are labeled as "noncompliant."
- Healthcare providers are frustrated by too many administrative responsibilities that erect barriers to direct patient care, such as contract negotiations, burdensome documentation, preauthorization forms, and billing. Insurance plans may dictate where and to whom providers may refer patients for tests and consultations making communication with other providers and with patients complex and difficult.
The current healthcare system’s interests (insurance and pharmaceutical companies, even healthcare providers) are biased toward those controlling the delivery of services. Drawing from our call to serve others, we believe the bias should be inclined towards healing, strengthening, and growing the individuals and communities who are receiving healthcare.
What is Auxanomen?
Auxanomen is a new model of healthcare that values equally the importance and participation of individuals, professional healthcare partners, and the community in which we live. As a non-profit organization, we seek to focus resources on those who would otherwise not be able to afford care, but we accept payment from those who can afford to pay, so that our financial resources may be shared with others. In order to avoid costly administrative fees, and regulations that only serve to limit access, not to enhance care, we do not accept any health insurance plans—private or government-sponsored. Each person is asked to pay what they can afford on the honor system. No financial statements are asked for or required. There is no "sliding scale."
Through a network of paid and volunteer staff, we seek to address the root causes of disease, believing that a healthy lifestyle in a healthy environment are much more effective than prescription drugs (although we prescribe when necessary, using generic medications where effective).
We honor that it takes time for people to learn new routines and we seek to teach healthy behaviors using nutrition specialists, diabetes educators, behavioral experts, and exercise physiologists to enhance physician contributions to the clinic. We model the behavior we believe healthy for all persons.
