Board Members

Loretta Loyd
Founding Board Member 2009 - Present
Board President 2011 - Present
Austin, TX

Ms. Loyd is employed in the Office of Business Affairs at The University of Texas System Administration. She has a bachelor’s degree in German from Central College, Pella, Iowa. Many years ago, Ms. Loyd became an unwilling partner to a disease called diabetes. As she became more intimate with diabetes, she became more familiar with the fallacies of the current healthcare system. In 2005, Ms. Loyd traveled to Haiti on mission and during that first trip heard there was a great need for a diabetes doctor or nurse to come and teach in the nursing school. In 2006, Dr. Dubois joined the mission team to Haiti and taught diabetes care and prevention in the nursing school with Ms. Loyd assisting with screenings. In 2007, the focus moved out of the nursing school and into the community through classes with pastors. In Haiti, the pastors were the true leaders with authority in their communities . In 2008, the mission moved from the classroom to clinics and included an infomercial on prevention. Ms. Loyd was the 2006 recipient of the A. W. “Dub” Riter, Jr. Humanitarian Award at the University of Texas System, the 2007 and 2008 Bronze level Presidential Volunteer Service Award and 2009 Silver level Presidential Volunteer Service Award. Auxanomen’s focus on growing the healthy diabetic patient and supporting global healthcare is an area of need where Ms. Loyd would most like to serve.

After serving on the faculty of West Virginia University School of Medicine, she moved to Austin where she has spent most of her career teaching in the University of Texas Medical Branch Austin Medical Education Program. She was invited to give the lecture Diabetes: New Therapies and Technology at the Austin American Diabetes Association Summit in 2008. Between October 2001 and May 2008, she was the Director of the Brackenridge Specialty Clinic for Endocrinology. With regard to patient care, Dr. Dubois is passionate about two things: that all patients should have access to the best medical treatments and technology, regardless of ability to pay; and that patients must be educated about their illnesses in order to serve as partners in their own care. In June 2006, she began yearly medical mission trips to Haiti, where she is a Visiting Professor of Endocrinology at the Karen School of Nursing, National Council of Spiritual Churches in Haiti (CONASPEH) headquarters in Port-au-Prince. She left private practice in June 2008 to devote her full time effort to caring for persons without health insurance.
